Term 4 Goals

My goals for this term:
Writing
Start writing more complex pieces of writing and editing thoroughly.  I can do this by spending more time on writing and editing and making sure that I have enough time to do it.
Reading
Improve answering questions about the text.  I can do this by going on read theory.
Maths
Get better at doing my maths faster and finishing it on time.  I can do this by not talking, focusing on my work and listening to the teacher.
Tech arts
For tech arts I want to try build my bottle rocket effectively and I'd like to learn more about the kitchen in food.
General
I'd like to get my silver badge this term and spend more time in at lunch to do work if necessary.  I also  would like to do another magazine report.

Week 7 Review

This week in tech arts we burnt tea bags and observed the results, predicted, explained and question what if we changed something.  Then we burnt them with double the height, triple the thickness and them folded up.  Not all of our experiments worked how we wanted them to. When there was a certain amount of tea bag left it lifted off the ground into the air until there was nothing left to burn and the ashes floated down.

In maths we learnt about polygons.  I have learnt heaps more than I have in all my other school years I think.  We also did a revision of triangles and I finished first.  I am finding maths easier and easier to understand.  In reading we learnt about themes. I found the worksheet relatively easy although I have to remember to write more than one word for the themes. While I was doing read theory on Thursday I could see that I am improving with answering question from the text.

On Thursday I didn't go to band due to my wrist. I sprained it and I ended up having to not participate in a few activities. I still could go to extension art and I enjoyed being there.  I an doing a collarge of a cherry and a pear. I have worked hard on this and it looks really good so far.  A lady called Jenny de groot came in to teach us how to do this.

Week 6 Review

This week for tech arts we finished sewing and I made a mini bag and a bookmark for my dad on Fathers Day.  We started Science and I nearly cried with laughter. We learnt about tastes and Mrs Tyson put different things in our mouths and we had to say if it was sweet, salty, sour, bitter or bland.

For maths we did learning on angles and how to draw them. We also learnt how to draw a circle using a compass.  Another thing we did was we learnt how to draw a triangle using a protractor and a compass.  It is easy once you know what to do.

We also have to write a film review on the movie Wall-e.  I have almost finished it and I think I have done it well.  On Friday we had cross country and I came 20th place. The run was steep in some places and I got a bit of asthma during the run.

Week 4 Reveiw

This week in tech arts I finished my pillow case and at home I put it to use and it really brightens up the room and it's on my reading chair. I also started my bag and I cut out all the pieces then pinned them on. This week I'll sew them on.  The picture on my bag is fishies and seaweed.  There are two fishes which are yellow and pink and the seaweed is different shades of blue.

In maths I started doing work on circles and then we had a test on Friday.  I found most of it relatively easy and I solved the problems quickly.  For reading I finished my book analysis and I think I did okay.  I have learnt my speech but I could learn it better.  I am getting better in cross country and I think I am improving my running.  I have also almost finished my series that I have been reading.

On Thursday we had a band festival and it went for the first two blocks and heaps of schools competed and did well. I was in the symphonic band playing percussion because there was no one who wanted to play so I had to do it.  Our band played really well and received a gold first place award.

Review of Week 3

This week in maths I learnt about circles and how to find the circumference of a circle and the diameter.  I also learnt about pi and I can recite the first six numbers 3.14159... though I don't know the rest.  In reading this week we learnt about point of view and I found it kind of easy except for when it come to Third person that where it trips me up.  I have finished my speech and put it on cue cards and I have almost finished my short story review.  I have been reading a series and I like it so much that I read a book a day and the books are pretty thick.  On Wednesday we did a first aid course where we learnt how to do CPR help someone in danger or injured.  We also learnt  how to bandage someone and what to say when calling an ambulance.  At the end we got a fist aid kit that had plastic tweezers.  In tech arts I finished painting my pillow case and then I started to sew the backing which included ironing and sewing on Velcro.

Review of Week 2

This week we did maths and we did metric measures and perimeter.  We have to also write an Analysis of a short story for reading and writing.  In tech arts I made a pencil case out of fabric and I made a second tennis ball.  I have almost finished my fox in extension art and last week I started on the fur strokes.  I am in the band festival doing percussion instead of the saxophone.  I am also going to Murray's Bay for a band camp soon.  In french we learnt about he things in the class room like exercise books and pencil cases. In soft materials I have also started on a pillow case design and I have done the draft and then I drew it onto fabric.  I have done well in cross country and so far I have done it quite quickly and I have been in the top few I think.

Term 2 Review and Term 3 Week 1

Term 2 Review

This term was fun.  I really enjoyed finishing the art tech arts and starting then finishing Hard materials. I made lots of plastic things and I even made A wooden box.  I got all of my work done and did it on time.  I did well in my fractions and decimals test as well. I did better than I thought I would.  I also did my holocaust visual art and I shared it and I did okay.  I have learnt a lot more when I came to intermediate and I hope to learn some more.  I am close to my bronze badge and I have about five more signatures to go.  I have almost finished my fox picture in extension art as well.

Term 3 Week 1 Review

This week we had the principal this week which was interesting and I'm glad to have Mrs Crowe back this week.  We did lots of cross country practice which I enjoyed except at the end when I couldn't breathe because of my Asthma.  I have finished my Student Led Conference and I've almost finished my speech.  I enjoyed tech arts and we are doing soft materials.  I made a tennis ball and we learnt about the different tools that we can use for sewing.

Week 8 Review

This week I received my never give up Shine band. Two more to go then I get my bronze badge.  This week we learnt how to add, subtract, multiply and divide fractions. I also learnt how to order fractions. In tech arts I started to bend and make things with plastic I made lots of key rings and I was going to make a box but I didn't have enough time as next week we have to rehearse for production.  For reading we had to build on our knowledge of words and learn about character traits.  For writing I did and Argument on bike helmets.

This week we did some more on decimals.  I got a bit behind but I think I'm catching up.  We are now starting off with fraction and starting off with the basic easy stuff I'm learning how to convert fractions to measurements and decimals.  I'm almost finished my L.E.D in tech arts and I have to cut out the shape of the base I learnt how to cut bigger pieces of wood a curve it. The shape is a leaf.  Next we get to choose what we do for our next project once we finish our letter and I'm going to maybe do a box.  I'm doing well with my saxophone and I learnt a new note which was b flat.  I can tell I'm getting better. I'm doing good with my book review and visual art project. I'm learning alot about people in the holocaust and I'm figuring out how I can write my book review

Week 5 term 2 review

We have been learning about decimals in maths like how to add, subtract, multiply and divide using algorithms.  Sometimes it took me a while to understand it fully and it took a bit of practice.  we also had to do a report writing of the holocaust and I was surprised how much I knew, and I also like reading about things that happened in the holocaust like true stories about people.  I had a page full of notes that I had done last term which helped me.  We also had Inter-house competitions on Friday and I played netball.  We had some tight games but we ended up losing all of our games but most of our team was Year Sevens and all the other teams had a least two year 8 players.  This week we didn't have tech arts on Tuesday  as our teacher had a nasty accident and the relieve didn't start till Wednesday. When we had tech arts on Thursday I got to use a scroll saw to cut out a wooden letter J.  I had to drill some holes where the L.E.D's would go, draw the circuit and put the copper tape on.  I learnt that the positive and negative pathways can't touch and L.E.D's have a short leg and a long leg the short leg is negative and the long leg is positive.
Here is a diagram of how the L.E.D works and the circuit.

To become a bit more involved
To get one more painting done in extension art
To start getting work done quicker.

Term 1 Reflection

This term has been getting used to everything and getting to know how things go in this school.  In the classroom I find the work fun and not boring.  I like how we have books to copy down the working when we learn a new strategy in maths. I have become used to going to tech arts and having the Thursday mess with lots of things to do that day.  I know I have enjoyed learning new things in art and music like learning the drums in music and learning clay work during art.  It was fun to get to know where everything was in the school and find out what kind of opportunities there were available.  I liked playing danish rounders for interclass competitions and working towards my shine bands.  I managed to get my respect band this term.  I have got to know my class members and enjoy the things I participate in.  The reading challenges me but also is really fun to work towards the prizes available.  I have managed to get the writing done and  have enjoyed writing the assignments.  I like playing saxophone and playing in junior band. The place I feel at home in is the art room.  I love going there for extension art and painting canvases.  I have made some new friend really quickly and I'm excited to hang out with them more this year. In music I became confident with the notes and liked making a rap and a dance. In art we have learnt about blending paints and pastels and have learn different designs of kourus.  I like how camp was fun but most of the time we were learning something.  I liked the Friday sports that we had because we could be more active.  We have also had to take french classes and now I can count to ten and know how to say hi and bye.  I have done well in my tests I think and have learnt many new strategies.  We have had inter house competitions and we won the most recent one that we did.  I'm relaxing now and am excited for next term and the leaning it brings. I have enjoyed intermediate and will probably enjoy it longer.

Wellington Camp

This week we went to Wellington.  The first thing we did was Zealandia.  Zealandia is a place that protects Native and Endemic animals and plants.  I learnt that native means found in New Zealand but also can be found in other places in the world.  Endemic Means that it is only found in New Zealand.  Next we visited the Holocaust center. It had some interesting books that I read. I learnt that 1.5 million children died in the holocaust. There were some things that children said and thought during the holocaust that were a different opinion. The final thing we did that day was the weta workshop. I learnt that sometimes in movies they used fake arrows that wouldn't hurt anyone and that they had robot masks that could move up and down.  We visited the space place and learnt how to find south in the night sky. We had a intense quiz about our solar system.  We had a fun ride on the cable car and went through lit up tunnels.  We also went to Parliament and learnt how laws were made. We were also taught how debates went. We were given a special tour and there were tons of questions asked and answered. We learnt about the Wahine disaster which was a boat that sunk near wellington and 52 people died. We got to try out some things that people migt have done on boats in the old days. We visited Capital E and they taught us how to create a movie clip and how to create Virtual reality also known as V.R during the making of our video clip we were taught how to use the cameras, sound control panel and many other things. During V.R they taught us how to create a world which included mountains, coloring our world, adding objects and even adding animals! We went to the bug lab in Te Papa which was very interactive, interesting and fun there was activities like, making origami bugs then watching them fly, a slide that made bug noises and a hive to look in.  For a fun treat we got to go to H2o Extreme the pools there were three slides on was lit up, one went really fast down and the last one was pitch black and had some twisty corners.  We went to the zoo and learnt about animals adapting to their homes there were lots of animals and things to learn about. There were some playful chimpanzees and sleepy lions and cute otters to name a few of the many animals there. We visited a beach and went snorkeling. I saw lots of fish and sea weed. I also saw massive paua the seaweed was very detailed but the water was freezing.  My buddy and adult saw a sting ray but sadly I didn't.

Week 6 and 7 Review

This week I learnt about order of operations.  I learnt what BEDMAS means  Brackets, Exponents, Division, Multiplication, Addition and Subtraction.  I kept saying bedmas over and over in my head so I did it in the right order.  I learnt that in the Holocaust they gassed people (I'm not 100% sure) so they died or made them work to death. I also learnt that Hitler killed Jews and made the where a gold star so the Germans could identify them.  In writing I learnt about commas and where they go and I have improved.  You put them before fanboys, when there is an AWUBIS word at the start of the sentence and if there is extra information that is not needed in the sentence.

Week 5 Review

This week I learnt about subtracting using algorithms. It was easy when I understood it, and I understood it pretty easily.  We also had swimming sports this week and I did about six events.  I didn't win anything but I almost came third in one event.  We did sentences in writing like how to use a complex sentence correctly and understanding the differences between simple, compound and complex sentences.  I finished my writing but I haven't edited it yet.  In extension art I thought it was great because at our table we helped each other and suggested colours that we should use.  We did some ONTV things for camp with the script and sorted out some of our groups.  We also had to learn about survival in water and learnt some strokes. That's about it this week.

Week 4 Term 1

This week I learnt about place value and rounding numbers.  I have a goal to be in production even though it might be tricky...  I had to do some tests and I hope it's all done now. I think I might of rushed a bit in some of my tests and in some I finished just in time.  We also had tech arts and it won't be long before we move on. I learnt a new song on the ukulele and practiced on the key board.  I also learnt how to times bigger number.  I managed to adjust to the way here but I haven't totally adjusted.  In softball I'd like to try to sneak and get a home run.  We also learnt about estimation and it was interesting. I like the math books that we can take down to the mat to copy down from the board it makes math a lot easier.  I hope to get my saxophone soon and then I can start practicing. We also started french and it is actually very interesting. Life is changing.

Week 3 Review

Last week we had Asttle writing. I found it was a little bit harder than I thought.  But it was my first time so I'll improve.  We learnt about the rules of softball which a pretty complex compared to Danish rounders.  We had our semifinal in Danish rounders and we won so today is finals.  I started on mathletics and it's actually pretty fun.  In tech arts we learnt more about music did some pieces on the keyboard and the ukulele.  We also did some rhythms on the drums.  We also had a math test and I think I did okay but not great.  I had my first extension art and it was really fun we are going to start on a painting about New Zealand native plants and I'm going to draw the Kakabeak.  It fits in with everything I wanted to paint.  I wanted something original, like the kowhi flower, something bright and something native to New Zealand.  The Kakabeak is a red kowhi like flower.  It's native to New Zealand and is something not many people would know about.
I also learnt about the colour wheel. Thanks for reading.
